1.1 Beam specifications: Energy and radiation fields
The ElectronFlash linear accelerator works in electron mode only.
The standard device is provided with two different nominal electron energies: 7 MeV and
9 MeV.
ElectronFlash can provide different radiation fields, ranging from Ø 1 cm up to Ø 12 cm.
The flatness of lateral profiles, measured at zref depth, is equal or better than 7% at
the nominal distance 100 cm
between the sample and the electron exit window.
The symmetry of the radiation field is better than 3%.
Fields are available both in circular and in squircle shape with side (diameter) 1 cm, 2
cm, 3 cm, 4 cm, 5 cm, 6
cm, 7 cm, 8 cm, 9 cm, 10 cm, 12 cm. Additional fields can be provided on request.
1.2 Available Dose Rates
The ElectronFlash can vary its dose rate from 0.005 Gy/s up to 1200 Gy/s with reference
field Ø 10 cm.
Dose rate is varied by modifying all the parameters hereinafter listed, being these
settings one each other
independent:
− E-gun Peak current;
− E-gun pulse duration: it can be set in the range from 0.2 μs up 4 μs;
− Pulse Repetition Frequency (PRF): it can be set in the range from 1 Hz up 350 Hz with
1 Hz increment.
The ElectronFlash Control Interface allows to program an irradiation in three
modalities:
1. Single pulse irradiation;
2. Train of pulses;
3. Irradiation halted by Monitor Units reading.
If ElectronFlash irradiates in modality 2 (Train of pulses), intervals between pulse
trains (i.e., m pulses followed
by n pulses) from 5 ms to 1 min are programmable by the End User.
1.3 Control system
Machine and beam diagnosis is designed according to IEC 60601-2-1, the standard
describing the requirement
for a Medical Radiotherapy linac (Medical electrical equipment - Part 2-1: Particular
requirements for the basic
safety and essential performance of electron accelerators in the range 1 MeV to 50 MeV).
Safety and security interlocks are provided and displayed, in particular all the
interlocks that guarantee the safety
of the operators (doors, emergency buttons). Before executing any irradiation, the beam
energy and the desired
dose rate must be programmed and consequently displayed at Control System.
The Human Machine Interface (HMI) allows to display and edit the parameters hereinafter
listed:
− E-gun Peak current;
− E-gun pulse duration: it can be set in the range from 0.2 μs up 4 μs;
− Pulse Repetition Frequency (PRF): it can be set in the range from 1 Hz up 350 Hz
with
1 Hz increment.
− Monitor Unit – both MU set and delivered, as per EN 60601-2-1;
− Number of pulses: Number of pulses set and delivered.
As a result of several years of work, they were able to install a new CT machine at
the
J. Endre Szántó United Social and Health Institute. The official handover ceremony
of
the device was held in the afternoon of December 14 at the clinic. As the opening of
the
event, Elek Boglárka Répásiné and her student Ivett Bodnár performed a short song
and
violin program. At the event, the director Dr. Géza Bobkó greeted the gathering and
introduced the institution. The dispensary was founded in 1984, at which time care
continued in several separate buildings scattered throughout the city.
The currently operating unit was built in 1990, which has been responsible for the
day-to-day care of patients since then. There are currently 30 specialist clinics
operating, where they primarily treat patients from the Szerencsi district, but
there
are overlaps with other areas as well. This year, a total of 128,000 patients
visited
the clinic until November 30, i.e. approximately 400 people per day. In 2017, they
dreamed that they would also like to perform CT examinations locally, for which they
submitted their application even then. Due to a lack of funds, they did not receive
the
grant then, but in 2021 they managed to win the amount of more than HUF 200 million.
Dr.
contributed to the implementation of the application. Deputy Minister Zsófia Koncz,
also
a Member of Parliament, said in her speech that her father already believed in this
project. He considers this development unique, as it is rarely possible to perform
CT
examinations in rural towns, and Szerencs is the first such town in the county. This
is
a great opportunity, as the time factor is important in health care, and less
waiting
time can often save lives. He emphasized that, as a result of a lot of work, this is
a
special gift to Szerencs and the region before Christmas.
The instrument was presented by radiologist Dr. Szilvia Varga. During his lecture,
he
first described the history of medical imaging devices, which have undergone
significant
changes in their methods and the time required for the examination over the decades.
The
device arriving at Szerencs is a SinoVision AlphaCT 358 Plus model, which has a
larger
75 cm diameter opening than the traditional CT opening. With the tender, they also
received a new ultrasound machine, a Mindray DC-70 type. Tibor Nyiri, the mayor of
the
city, took the floor, who considers the development of technology and healthcare to
be
of such a high standard. He emphasized that the fight against pathogens is
continuous,
viruses and diseases are part of everyday life. It is important that people receive
the
best care here in Szerencs as well. The head of the city emphasized that the
preparation
and implementation of a tender is a complex process that requires serious teamwork
and
collaboration. In his opinion, it is a reassuring feeling that the waiting and
response
times are getting shorter, as well as knowing that you can count on the workers
here.
After the mayor's speech, a toast was held to celebrate this momentous occasion.
After
the champagne toasts, the ribbon in the national color was cut, which officially put
the
new CT device into use. At the end of the event, the attendees had the opportunity
to
view the device and the spaces created for it. The tender for the development of the
outpatient specialist care center in the Szerencs region was thus concluded, and the
city's dispensary was further enriched as a result.
